About Yellowknife
Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, lies on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake and is one of the best places on Earth to watch the northern lights. A former gold-mining town, it is now the territory's government and services hub. Yellowknife still observes traditional Mountain Time, changing its clocks twice a year (UTC−7 in winter, UTC−6 in summer); the territory has introduced legislation to match Alberta's permanent UTC−6, but that change is not yet in force.
